JENAS-20

Omeprazole belongs to the class of proton pump inhibitors and is commonly used to treat peptic ulcers. It is well tolerated and is used in adults and children. peptic ulcers are the degradation of the lining of the gastrointestinal tract. The ATPase enzyme which causes the exchange of hydrogen and potassium through the cell and thus results in the formation of hydrochloric acid. Omeprazole inhibits the growth of H. Pylori when used in combination with other drugs and leads to the eradication of the bacteria.

  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease
  • Peptic ulcers
  • Helicobacter pylori Infections

Mechanism of action-

Omeprazole inhibits the sodium potassium ATPase pump present on the parietal cells. secretion of hydrochloric acid is mediated by this pump.

Pharmacokinetics-

Absorption- It is rapidly absorbed by gastrointestinal tract
Protein Binding- It is 95% bound to plasma proteins
Metabolism- It is metabolized in the liver
Excretion- It is excreted unchanged via urine
